OTHER BOOKS

I wrote two novels in the '90's. They follow the life of a young single woman with a terrible job—covering homicides for a metropolitan daily (my job at that time.) In the last book, our heroine leaves newspapers and gets a job as an on-air correspondent for a local TV station. A few months after I finished the novel, I was offered a job as an on-air correspondent at CNN. I had intended them to be part of an ongoing series but life got in the way.

Strangers in the Night

Kate Murray is a young, single woman with a tough job—covering crime for a New York City newspaper. At a time when the crime rate has never been higher, Murray is trying to negotiate the colorful world of a metropolitan daily, find love and get the story.

"The book has a nerve-jangling realism that a lot of mysteries don't."
—New York magazine

"A startling, realistic and exciting story."
—Mostly Murder

In the Midnight Hour

Set in a city besieged by crime, reporter Kate Murray, now a television reporter, and her sometimes boyfriend, New York City Detective John Finn, struggle with the pressures, and competing loyalties of their jobs as fate throws them back together.

"(An) epic New York romance...gone tragically, horribly awry. Tyre hasn't lost her unerring eye for the kind of characters that populate a cop reporter's world."
—The Providence Journal

"A great, if disturbing, read."
—The Ottawa Citizen

Two Seconds Under the World Two Seconds Under the World

This is a book about the first World Trade Center bombing which I wrote with my late editor and two other excellent journalists who now work at the New York Times. This book has been cited as one of the seminal works about terrorism in the United States.
