An article I wrote in The Atlantic inspired a group of literacy nerds to create online tools to teach low-income kids how to express their ideas in writing with precision and clarity. I’ve served on their executive board since 2015. The site serves 6 million kids.
The founder (a former teacher) wanted to make sure every public school in NYC had a student run news site. I was all in. Board member. Super-fan.
The founder noticed school libraries were defunct in many schools that had low rates of literacy. I suggested the organization dedicate itself to refurbishing them. The program is off and running!
